What Does Tanglaw Mean?

Tanglaw means light — and light, in the Filipino home, has always been more than illumination. It marks the table where the family gathers, the window left glowing for someone still on their way home. This collection takes that idea and gives it a body: five lamps, each crowned by a woven salakot and lit by a soft orb beneath the brim, each one wearing a different chapter of Filipino identity. They are the same in silhouette and different in story — a family, standing together.

Who is the Katipunero?

When the Katipunan rose against three centuries of colonial rule, its members knotted a red kerchief at the neck as the sign of the oath they had taken — freedom, or death. The Katipunero lamp needs nothing more than that single knot and the sash at its waist to carry the memory of the ordinary men and women who lit the first flame of the nation's independence. It is the quietest form in the collection, and the most defiant.
